Tari Saman (The Saman Dance)

Tari Saman, or the Saman Dance, is originally from the Indonesian province of Aceh in the northern tip of Sumatra Island. It is a dynamic group dance with highly coordinated choreography.

In this 30 second video clip, you will see more than 600 students and faculty members of The School of Language and Art Education of the Indonesia University of Education in Bandung practice the dance in their attempt to break the Indonesian record of the most numerous dancers performing the Saman dance. The current records was made on July 8, 2008, when 600 dancers performed this dance in Gelora Bung Karno Jakarta at the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Indonesia's national awakening.

Enjoy the video, and don't forget to check out Bandung Daily Video's elder sister, Bandung Daily Photo for photos and stories about Bandung.
